SEATTLE - Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said Saturday taking the conference's first football championship game to Indianapolis was the easiest choice with little time to research other options.
Delany was at a downtown Seattle hotel on Saturday as Michigan faced the NCAA infractions committee for rules violations Toronto Raptors jerseys within the Wolverines football program. Delany declined to comment about the hearing during a lunch break.
But he was willing to talk about the conference's decision that the 2011 championship game would be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
"I wanted to get it accomplished so we could tell our television partner where it would be broadcast," Delany said. "We know the people in Indianapolis, we know they have a great facility, we know they are teed up to have the Super Bowl in 2012 and I said to athletic directors, we're not making this a long-term commitment. It makes a lot of logistical sense."
Where the title game goes after 2011 is still for debate and evaluation. Delany said the conference intends to examine the locations for its men's and women's basketball tournaments and the football championship Nike SB Blazers mid game next spring when officials have time to tour a number of sites that have shown interest.
Delany said it's possible all three could be together in a package deal, but athletic directors currently don't have the time to examine all the options.
"We can go visit people who have interest and then make what I would say is a little more of a global decision about those three events," he said.
The conference will split into divisions next year when Nebraska becomes the 12th member of the Big Ten. Delany said the athletic directors were very receptive to the core ideas of keeping competitive balance and holding onto rivalries, with geography a third factor but not as important as the first two.
Jimmy Choo Shoes Delany hopes the divisional alignments are solidified within a month.
"We're making some progress," he said.

In any group, there will be people you are really on the same wavelength as and others where it's different. But it doesn't mean we're not friends.
"Nadine lives in LA now so it's inevitable you grow apart." Although Kimberley no longer sees her Derry bandmate she insists Cheryl Cole and Nicola Roberts are still her "best friends".
She said: "I don't know why we've bonded like we have but I'd count them among my Yves Saint Laurent Shoes best friends.
"I look back at certain moments and think, 'What would I have done without them?'."
Walsh says the time apart during the girls' year-long hiatus has been welcome.
She added: "It's been nice to have a break and do our own things."

paying for the plant conversion The cost of converting the Water Pollution Control Plant to anaerobic digestion is estimated at $64,114,693. That is $9 million more than budgeted in the city's five-year capital improvement budget, which was based on a previous estimate. The city will compensate by spreading its payments to the state revolving loan fund over 26 years, rather than 20. Residents also will see increasing sanitary-sewer bills. The planned increases in monthly bills for the average homeowner over the next six years are as follows: FY11 FY12 FY13 FY14 FY15 FY16 11% 15% 16% 18% 17% 3% The 11 percent hike in Fiscal Year 2011 means an increase of $2.08, from $18.96 per month to $21.04 per month. Over the next six years, the average bill is expected to rise to $39.92 Source: City of Dubuque
tiffany charm bracelet The planning process grayed Jonathan Brown's hair. The manager of Dubuque's Water Pollution Control Plant wasn't sure what impact two to three years of construction might have.
Workers are expected on site by early September. Within 33 months, Dubuque should have a functioning anaerobic digestion facility in place of its incineration plant at a cost of about $64 million.
"This is going to be a complicated job," Brown said. "You have to remember we're not building it in an empty field. It's being built around the existing facility. The challenge will be in keeping some of the stuff that is already falling apart running until we get this done."
In 2007, the Dubuque City Council listed replacement of the 40- year-old plant as a top priority. In 2008, it debated the merits of incinerating the waste materials produced at the plant as opposed to anaerobic digestion. It settled on the digestion process because it will lower energy costs and decrease the carbon footprint. Incineration requires about 1.6 million kilowatt hours of electricity and 18,000 gallons of fuel oil per year. Digestion is estimated to use 700,000 kilowatt hours and 1,500 gallons of fuel.
watches-0-9The digestion process, in which microorganisms break down biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen, also produces a gas that is about 60 percent methane. Plans call for capturing the methane and using it to produce electricity at the plant that will save the city $236,000 annually.
"It will produce about half of our electricity on site," Brown said.
Future plans call for introducing food scraps into the digestion process and increasing the plant's electrical output, while diverting material from the landfill.
The new facility also will book printing keep the city out of trouble with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Heavy rains have overwhelmed the plant's capacity, and it has been cited by the DNR for dumping wastewater into Catfish Creek. Brown said two processing tanks will be retrofitted into storage tanks that will hold excess water until the plant can accept it.
"This will give us an ability to divert some water during rain events, and if not eliminate the risk of violations, pretty close to it," Brown said.
The new plant will use ultraviolet light during the disinfection process and should help the city meet tougher air-quality requirements being discussed by the Environmental Protection Agency.
City Manager Mike Van Milligen cited an article in the May 24 issue of the U.S. Conference of Mayors newsletter that said compliance will be more chall

SHE is the sweetheart who inspired many of Paolo Nutini's best-loved songs.
But it appears the Scots singer will have to look for a new muse, after girlfriend Teri Brogan revealed she was single on social networking website Facebook.
mens Breguet watchesThe couple, both 23, have been together since they were 15 - and the chart star's biggest hit Last Request was written about her.
But despite the fact they have attended a host of parties together this year, including the Giorgio Armani show at the Milan Fashion Week, friends say the relationship has been under strain.
Speaking at last month's Brit Awards, Nutini admitted: 'Things aren't good between us. We've had some ups and downs before so, hopefully, everything will be OK.' However, Miss Brogan, a model, said yesterday their relationship was on the rocks - but refused to say they had split for good.
She said: 'We are going through a hard time. It is undecided. It is a personal matter. I can't tell you anything.' Miss Brogan, a marketing graduate, is credited with keeping Nutini's feet on the ground after he shot to stardom with 2006 debut album These Streets - and then consolidated his status with the even bigger-selling Sunny Side Up, which topped the UK chart.
The pair moved into a [pounds sterling]285,000 apartment in their native Paisley, Renfrewshire, last August, and there was speculation they might marry.
But there could yet be good news for Nutini, who previously said the glamorous Miss Brogan was his 'addiction'. The pair briefly split up when he moved to London at the age of 16 to pursue music stardom, but the love-struck couple soon got back together.
Their relationship was also under strain in 2007, when actress Sienna womens Franck Muller watches Miller took a shine to the fresh-faced Nutini.
Frank Muller Watches At the time, he said the constant rumours were damaging his relationship. He said: 'I didn't even meet Sienna, so there's no truth in that one whatsoever. I'm immensely happy with my girlfriend.
'Those kinds of stories can have repercussions on your personal life.
If the roles were reversed, and my girlfriend was around loads of Hollywood actors, I wouldn't be happy.
'When I'm on tour, I do the shows and then have a laugh with the band. Then I get on the tour bus and have a few beers and think about my girlfriend.' But they stayed together and she ended up inspiring a plethora of new songs for Sunny Side Up, including Candy and Growing Up Beside You.
Nutini's spokesman declined to comment.
