For those who refuse to get excited about the chocolate-covered pink explosion that is Valentine's Day, there is another rather explosive holiday to celebrate this weekend.
The Chinese New Year moves around on a lunar calendar, and the Year of the Tiger officially begins on Sunday, Feb. 14.
Like with any horoscope, different sources predict different things for those born with stripes. But there seems to be a consensus that Tigers are among the favored zodiac symbols.
rolex replica"It's usually a good year," said Shuang-Ye Wu, principal of the Greater Dayton Chinese School. "If you want a boy, it's best that they are born in the Year of the Tiger," she said.
Wu said couples in China often try to time their pregnancies so they have children in the Year of the Tiger or the Dragon.
"Tigers are supposed to be very energetic," Wu said. She said they are considered majestic and successful.
It's not hard to see why. Out of the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac, tigers seem like a welcome alternative to say a monkey, rat or pig.
Wu said most Chinese people don't follow the zodiac all that closely. "It's like astrology," she said. "There are still people who believe it, but I think most people really take it as fun. They don't take it very seriously."
Tigers are described as unpredictable, rebellious, daring and impulsive. However, they are also known to be affectionate, generous and sincere. They can be obstinate and stubborn to a fault.
Tigers have a tendency to jump from job to job and relationship to relationship, but they enter each new endeavor with complete passion and determination to be the best.
Tigers become stubborn if they are not in charge, but they are not motivated by money or power. They simply love to be the leader.
If you choose to believe the predictions, here are some things you should know about Tigers (most people born in the years 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 and of course 2010):
