Indonesia considers to purchase S. Korea's trainer jets

JAKARTA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Air Force Commander Marshall Imam Syafaat said Thursday that South Korean trainer jet T- 50 Golden Eagle is the most potential option to replace the air force's Hawk Mk 53 planes that would be decommissioned in 2011.

Imam said that T-50 Golden Eagle was one of three trainer jets considered by the government to replace the British Aerospace's Hawk Mk 53 two-seater trainer/light attack jets that have been in service with Indonesian Air Force since 1980's. Indonesia operates 38 Hawk Mk 53 planes.

At times I've found White House press secretary Robert Gibbs to be unnecessarily irascible, and maybe his lashing out at the constant grumbling of the "professional left" wasn't the best tactic. You want the base worked up -- but for you, not about you.

Nonetheless, his basic point was spot on: The complainers from the left are, in some combination, myopic, forgetful and deranged.

Gibbs is far from the only White House official with these frustrations, but he's the first to share them on the record and, therefore, the first to walk them back. He issued a statement longer than the original offending words acknowledging that he may have spoken "inartfully" -- which is Washington-speak for honestly - - and confessing to watching "too much cable."

That last part may be true. As to the rest of it -- Gibbs was right the first time.

"I hear these people saying he's like George Bush. Those people ought to be drug tested," Gibbs told the Hill's Sam Youngman, in an interview published Tuesday. "I mean, it's crazy."

This "professional left," he added, "will be satisfied when we have Canadian health care and we've eliminated the Pentagon. That's not reality."

Indeed, for all the derision from the left about the Bush administration not being "reality-based," many lefty bloggers and talking heads have failed to be reality-based in assessing the Obama administration.

Inoue Sou, a Japanese national came to India two years ago to learn Hindustani classical vocal music. Originally, a flautist and a trained musician of the Japanese traditional music, Sou was utterly fascinated by Indian classical music.

Sou learned the bansuri from Nakagawa Hiros, a disciple of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia for five years, when his guru advised him to come to India to learn vocals. He performed at a concert yesterday, which was organised by the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal and Dhrupad Sansthan Gurukul in Bhopal, where he has learnt classical music for two years.

"My guru advised me that I should learn the vocals in order to become a better flautist and also understand Hindustani classical music. But I didn't follow his Christian Louboutin advice immediately. After five years of learning under him, I decided that I should learn the vocals," says Sou, who came to Bhopal to learn under the Dagar gharana.

He says that the traditional Japanese music has a fixed format and a set of rules. It is basically shrine music and the disciple has to imitate what the master teaches him/her. "In Hindustani classical music, the pursuer can create his/her own style and has freedom to do so. I learnt Hindi to enhance my vocal skills," says Sou, who has learnt the raag Bhupali and Yaman. Sou has also performed at a concert in Japan.

"Back in Tokyo, my family was very supportive and wanted me to follow my passion. Indian music is quite popular in Japan. The sitar and the tabla are popular instruments in my country," reveals Sou. He adds that the khayal style of music is popular too back home. Eyes of the golf world will be watching the return of Tiger Woods this week at the Accenture Match Play in Tucson. But for Rick Wahlin, a former BYU football player, it will take on special meaning.

When Tiger tees it up, it will have been 254 days since Woods last competed and defeated Rocco Mediate in a dramatic playoff at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines -- a weekend during which Woods limped his way to the finish with a torn ACL and fractured leg.

Wahlin, engineering manager over creation, conception, design and performance of golf clubs for Nike Golf, was one of the few behind the scenes who knew the extent of Woods' physical condition the week of the Open. When Wahlin watched the Nike icon polish off Mediate, he felt chills go up his spine.

"He is what he is. He's awesome," said Wahlin.

It's been almost seven years since Nike hired Wahlin away from Taylormade Golf in San Diego and sent him to Fort Worth, Texas, to help put Nike seriously into the golf club business under legendary Tom Stites.
